In-between traveling the world on photo assignments, David Abrahams knows he can rely on his trusty, savory pasta recipe. His go-to addition? Mackerel, but “you can easily trade out the fish for some meat, like pancetta and add a tin of tomatoes for another very quick and easy dish that tastes delicious,” the London-based photographer tells Family Style. And of course, like his photographs, it comes together on a compositional level, too: a beautiful plate for any table.

Ingredients

  • 2 cloves of finely chopped garlic
  • Handful of cherry tomatoes
  • Olive oil
  • ½cup White wine
  • 1 cup linguine pasta
  • Chili (to taste)
  • Tender stem broccoli
  • Peas (½cup)
  • 1 cup Mackerel
  • Capers (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Boil a pot of salty water and cook the noodles.
  2. In another pan, cook the fish down with white wine, olive oil, garlic, and chili.
  3. As the fish cooks down, add broccoli, tomatoes, peas, capers and a dash of the brine.
  4. Add in pasta and let simmer.
  5. Cook down with white wine and more chili flakes.

Samuel Ross doesn’t just navigate disciplines—he bends and bridges them, fashioning worlds of his liking only to deconstruct them at a creative whim. The intersectionalist looks to legendary artist Takashi Murakami as a blueprint for controlled chaos.
